Colin Kaepernick National Anthem Protest: Muhammad Ali’s Ex Wife Says ‘Not Heroic’
Listen up Colin Kaepernick. Muhammad Ali’s ex-wife has some advice for you. Khalilah Camacho Ali says she was helpful to Muhammad during his decision to protest the Vietnam War and she thinks that what Colin is doing is ‘not heroic.’ Get the full scoop here.
Colin Kaepernick, 28, needs to apologize for his National Anthem protest, according to Muhammad Ali‘s ex-wife Khalilah Camacho Ali. She says it’s “not heroic” and he should “get off his high horse.” So where does she get off telling the 49ers quarterback what to do? Well, having been married to one of the greatest athletes of all time, from 1967 to 1976, she said she was Muhammad’s adviser when he refused to fight in the Vietnam War. So, she has a little experience with serious protests between athletes and what their country may believe is a person’s civic duty.
“What he’s doing right now is not heroic,” Khalilah told TMZ. “I would love to meet with him or talk to him on the phone to help share his message in a better way.” Khalilah explained that she helped Muhammad decide “whether he was going to the army or going to jail.” “He listened to my every word. You see the impact that had on our nation? Colin could absolutely have the same impact if he made the right decisions to really make a difference.” She is correct that Muhammad’s decision to speak out against the Vietnam War really had an impact on the United States. It also had an impact on his career though, costing him almost four years of precious fighting time.

When asked how she would reason with Colin, she said, “the first thing I would do is ask him about his stance on humanity … what exactly is he trying to improve and how is he going to make that happen?” “Next, I’d have him make a retraction for his actions against the American flag. He needs to apologize.” “I will help him meet the groups that will fight with him, donate to charities of all people — not just minorities — because we cannot single anyone out. If he wants isolation to end, he needs to prove that he cares about all people, and not just his people,” Khalilah continued. “If he is willing to get off his high horse and humble himself, we could do a lot of good together.” We wonder if Colin would be willing to listen to Khalilah, or if she’s just wasting her time.
